Nepal Justice Lab

Digital innovation for access to justice
Nepal Justice Lab is an initiative of Ekjut, working at the intersection of legal technology, institutional reform, and access to justice.
Its concept proposes a phased technical partnership with the Supreme Court of Nepal to support judicial independence, transparency, and access to justice. The partnership and pilots remain proposals subject to Court approval.
What the concept explores
Proposed areas include a public case-information portal, disaster-resilient digital archives, Nepali-language court transcription, and tools for legal research and case-backlog analysis.
The proposed first phase focuses on already-public case information, a small court pilot, and a joint governance structure. Later phases would depend on jointly agreed scope, approvals, and appropriate data-sharing arrangements.
Judicial independence comes first
The proposal gives Nepal Justice Lab no role in adjudication and no access to case merits, deliberations, or draft judgments. Every pilot, tool, and expansion would require prior Court approval.
Public information is the default. Any expansion beyond public data would require a separate, explicit data-sharing agreement approved by the Court.
Ekjut supports public-interest justice work and legal knowledge, but is not a substitute for professional legal advice or representation.
